How to Utilize a Collaborative or Shared-use Kitchen

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

There are many different names for it—commissary, shared-use, commercial, R&D, or in our case, collaborative—but what it means is a rentable, licensed commercial kitchen. Our shared-use kitchen is an authorized retail food establishment and comes with equipment, utensils, and storage space. You don’t have to worry about maintenance or the initial capital that would be needed to rent/buy the space and purchase the necessary accouterments yourself; though all users are required to manage their own licensing.

A collaborative kitchen is an excellent option for many different types of food-related businesses.

  • Research and development (R&D) facilities

  • Daily prep for a food truck

  • Sellable food production

  • Pop-up dinners and restaurants

  • Take-out food production

  • Catering prep for presentations and events

There are so many bits and bobs to get together when establishing a new business: licenses, permits, tax id numbers, marketing, hiring, and the list goes on. Utilizing a commissary kitchen takes some of this stress out of the equation.

What it saves for you and your business-

  • You won’t need to spend the money on buying or renting a private space

  • You will have plenty of equipment and wares at your disposal without having to purchase them yourself

  • You can build up capital from sales before expanding if you choose

  • You won’t need to worry about the general maintenance of equipment

At The Times Collaborative, we understand how scary it is to start your own business—we took a major leap opening up a coworking space during a pandemic—and we want to do whatever we can to support you along your entrepreneurial adventure.

Renting a commercial kitchen from The Times Collaborative comes with your typical advantages, like provided:

  • Small wares

  • 6-burner stove

  • 2-basket fryer

  • Prep tables

  • Three-compartment sink

  • Handwashing sink

  • Frozen, refrigerated, and dry storage space

But because of our unique, coworking and event space, we can also offer:

  • Office space in the same building as your certified kitchen

  • Support and space for any events

  • A diverse group of businesses in the same building to collaborate, serve, connect, and learn with

If you can’t fathom buying or renting an office/kitchen space and equipment right now, you might think that you have to wait to start working on your dream. Here at The Times Collaborative, we have the licensing, equipment, and office and storage space to help you get started. And our coworking and events space is centrally located in downtown Longmont, CO! A great location with plenty of parking and foot traffic.
